I love the way God can, and often does, take any circumstance and turn it into a teachable moment. I'm not a great theologian nor am I known to ponder the universe. However, I do love God, read his word and am continuously asking him "what does this mean?".
Recently I opened a notification that my husband received in the mail, it stated that he owed $100 for going 46 mph in a 35 mph zone. This notification was accompanied by photos of the car and the license plate. Now, the date of the offense was a day my husband and I were out of town. This left one culprit.... our 20 yr. old daughter.
As I studied this notification, I grew more agitated, how dare she! how irresponsible! wait till I get ahold of her! "I'M GOING TO LET HER HAVE IT!!".
While my husband studied this document I was declaring to him just how irresponsible she is and how she should be punished, yet he was quite calm. This dismayed me because #1 he had to pay a $100 fine and #2 he could potentially lose his perfect driving record.
Days later, while I was meditating on the goodness of God, he showed me a parallel that mirrored his love for us, (and unfortunately my roll in this saga). Not only was my husband willing to accept the offense as his own, but, he was also willing to pay the price.
This is just a small picture of what Jesus did for us on the cross. God, being righteous and holy, has to judge righteously, none of us can stand before him on our own.
*"For all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God." Romans 3:23
So, we need a proxy...(a person who is given the power or authority to do something for someone, one who acts as a substitute for another.) Merriam-Webster. Thus, Jesus became our proxy, he claimed our sins as his own and paid the ultimate price!
*"For our sake he made him to be sin who knew no sin, so that in him we might become the righteousness of God." 2 Corinthians 5:21
What does this mean? It means, when he looks at his children he doesn't see their flaws, he sees a piece of clay that he is molding into something beautiful. He sees the blood of Jesus and his righteousness. He sees his children, that he loves so dearly, he laid his life down for them.
*"For I will be merciful to their unrighteousness, and their sins and their iniquities will I remember no more." Hebrews 8:3
What was my role in this? I was the accuser.
